On Saturday October 26, 2014 in Santa Ana, CA an 18 year old man died after a man driving under the influenced crashed into him causing a collision with another unsuspecting vehicle; a total of 5 people were also injured. Robert Rubio died on impact.
The man responsible is 23 year old Herbert Granados Calderon, resident of Santa Ana whose license was already suspended for a previous DUI. The collision took place just before 9:30 that evening on the intersections of Bristol Street and Central Ave. Calderon was in a Lexus going South on Bristol street when he ran a red light and plowed into 18 year old Robert Rubio who was in a Honda. The impact was so great that Rubio’s Honda crashed into a third vehicle, a Chevrolet pickup. Robert Rubio died on impact.

Teenager Dead, 5 Injured in Santa Ana DUI Crash
There were 3 other passengers in the car with Calderon, all of which including Calderon were transported to a nearby hospital. In addition, there were 2 occupants in the Chevrolet, neither of them was injured. Robert was also a resident of Santa Ana. A vigil was held the next day after the accident with many of Robert’s friends and family present. A friend of his at the scene told news reporters that Robert was a very nice guy who always had a smile on his face. Calderon is currently arrested and is being held on $100,000 bail.
